Giving Me The Run Around


I nover recieved a card for my Account Now Acct (the 2nd one) and I have direct deposit for the acct whe I called the company the told me that I need to fax them a copy of my DL,SSN, and an utility bill and it will take 3 to 5 days for review, well its day 6 and I called agein to check whats going on and the csr claims that they havent received any information from me and to fax it again. I will give them until Tuesday afternoon for my money or I will be filing a lawsuit against Account Now

I am in the same situation as millions of others from what I have been reading. I am in a bad situation because I am a tax preparer and I am the one who recommended AccountNow to my clients and AccountNow has frozen 4 refunds totaling about 13,000 and my clients are accusing me of taking their money. I have faxed all of the documents they asked for and this was in February,2012 and still nothing. I have called and they have attempted to call but get no answer, placed on hold for 45 minutes and no one come the phone or they just hang up on you. I have filed complaints on their behalf and plan to file even more. I was told by the FDIC that they are getting a swam of complaints about accountnow. They are asking for verification and when they get it they still will not release the money. I have even requested that the money be sent back to the IRS but that has not been done either. Most banks do not operate that way. With all of the technology you would think that they could atleast get on skye, ovoo or something and actually see the person against the faxed driver license if they really wanted to verify identity. There only obligation is to verify identity to satisfy the stipulations in the US patriot act in good faith. AccountNow baits people to get these cards with ID and then wait until the tax refund hit and after the card is activated and a few transactions take place and then they freeze and when you go to the site the only options they give is that the card is lost and stolen. I even faxed the front and back of the card to show that the client has the card and receiots from ATM, w-2's, ss card and they still will not release. Why accept the refund from IRS without an identification if you are going to find a way to keep it. Why not do like most reputable banks do, check identity before any money is put on a card. That makes you wonder why this scam is allowed to happen. I have been told that they are under investigation and that employees will also be implicated in this scam. I suggest that facebook and twitter and social network be used in upcoming tax season to warn people of the danger of these prepaid cards - it is a practice with a lot of them including turbo tax card and green dot. Stick with reputable bank cards or just open up a saving account to put tax refund if there is no checking account. I will make sure that I post on facebook and ask all to send to their friends.
